According to the Julian calendar, according to which the Serbian Orthodox Church counts time, Serbian New Year was celebrated on January 13th.

In some towns, celebrations were organized on squares, but much more in restaurants and in the family circle. In Belgrade, people gathered on the plateau in front of St Sava’s church.
In Banja Luka, Republika Srpska, New Year was celebrated on the Krajina Square, to the music of trumpeters and there were fireworks at midnight, while in the Church of Christ the Saviour a prayer was held for the next year.
There were fireworks also in Podgorica, Montenegro, in front of the Church of St George.
The metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Amfilohije, the keeper of the throne of the patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, held a service, wishing the coming year put an end to all the enmities among people.
